Chester County’s land use is at a pivotal juncture: about 1/3 of the county is developed, and about 1/3 of the county is preserved. The remainder of our land must be planned for strategically, and municipalities are at the center of developing this strategy. Most Chester County municipalities have policy goals around preserving open space and expanding park amenities, and there are a broad range of tools municipalities can use to effectively implement these goals. This training session will provide attendees with an overview of a variety of these tools and will provide ample opportunity to discuss questions and issues specific to your municipality. Peer municipalities and local experts will discuss some of the available tools like Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plans; trail development; implementing a local open space tax; and effective roles for open space committees.
