Ag in the Classroom: Traditions & Horizons of the Food & Fiber Industry of Berks County

June 20, 2023 8:00am to June 22, 2023 4:30pm

Join Berks County Department of Agriculture for this Teacher Workshop and earn Act 48 credits! Ag in the Classroom is a first-hand experience of the agricultural industry in Berks County. During a 3-day tour, participants will visit suppliers, producers, and processors of our food & fiber system, including well-established sectors, while exploring the horizons of agriculture with direct-to-consumer businesses and niche agricultural products. These visits will discuss the importance and challenges of the agribusiness, as well as career opportunities and the skills required to succeed in that field. During transit times and lunch breaks we will hear from professionals in the field about supporting services of the agricultural industry.

The course will emphasize incorporating the participants' learning into the classroom by selecting and adapting at least two activities or projects to be implemented in the classroom. The tour will include visits to two schools that will showcase real-life examples of integrating agriculture into the classroom.
