After years of lobbying in D.C., Pennsylvania senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey announced on Tuesday that they have secured $12 million in federal funding to help pay for the completion of the Schuylkill River Trail in Philadelphia.
Officials celebrated a $1 million project to construct a pedestrian bridge for Schuylkill River Trail users over Route 724 in Union Township.
As of next year, avid cyclists and hikers will have plenty to look forward to when warm weather makes its return.
On Saturday, Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area celebrated the project initiation of a new Schuylkill River bridge that is expected to dramatically improve safety for those who need to cross Route 724 in Union Township while using the trail.
The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) has awarded $7.9 million to 10 local projects – including two in Chester County – in southeastern Pennsylvania through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program. Additionally, $4 million will be dedicated to future projects over the next three years.
