Silver Creek Treatment System

The Silver Creek AMD treatment system was completed in July, 2010. A passive treatment system was installed, which includes five pools. The AMD water is collected in the scour pool, allowing it to slow down. As it leaves the scour pool, the water is spread across a wide area in a sheet flow. As it passes through the second and third settling ponds, the metals drop out of the water and the water then flows through two shallow wetland cells befor reentering Silver Creek. It treats approximately 1,200 gallons/minute, removing metals and raises the pH of the mine drainage before it flows into Silver Creek.
